This is a quote from an actual client and I can’t tell you how many times I have heard this over the years.
People are scared of their food.
These same people have been dieting on and off for YEARS – many of them since they were a kid! And while parents only ever have the best intentions, many have passed down their own issues with their bodies to their children.
Chronic dieting can take a huge physical and emotional toll on the body – not to mention it’s EXHAUSTING!
Some really common things I see with chronic dieting are…
- Feeling like tracking food/counting calories/counting points etc is THE ONLY way to know you’re are on track and get results
- Restricting intake to 1200 calories (or less!!) to lose weight as fast as possible
- Having a perfect amount of weight that should be lost each week in order to be successful
- Needing to have ‘cheat’ days or ‘days off’ the diet because the feeling of deprivation is REAL
- Ultimately feeling like a failure because you couldn’t sustain was is actually a completely unsustainable diet in the first place
If any of this sounds like you, I’m here to tell you THERE IS A BETTER WAY! You don’t have to be scared of your food, or count every calorie you put in your mouth.
You can absolutely learn to eat according to how you feel and enjoy the foods you love. You can regain control. But… (there are a few buts)
- It takes a lot of work. Mentally and emotionally, it takes a lot of work to get past what you have always done and find a new way to approach your food
- It takes a long time. And I mean a long time! Just think back to how long this has been going on for… YEARS… you cannot undo that in a few weeks or even months
- It takes a lot of support and you cannot be ashamed of needing someone to help you navigate this
If any of this hits home for you and you’re feeling like you might like a change, please reach out.
Food is amazing – it brings us energy, joy, comfort, it can be shared with others and used to celebrate. You don’t want to miss out on this!
Overcoming a fear of food might just be the best decision you ever make.
